Slow down to speed up: The lesson I keep relearning

Let me tell you a secret: I'm fast.

I think fast. I move fast. I work very fast. It's one of my superpowers.

But here's what I've learned after eight years of building businesses: Sometimes speed becomes a trap. You go so fast you forget where you’re going.

Recently, I did something that did not feel comfortable to me and I hit pause. Not because I had to. But because I chose to.

I cleared my calendar for a few days and sat with the big questions:

  • What am I actually building?

  • Who am I building it for?

  • What do I want this next chapter to feel like?

  • What clients make me happy?

  • What parts of my business don’t make me happy?

I looked at every part of my business… my offers, my content, my clients, my go-to-market, my time. And what I saw was this:

I'd been running fast, but not always in the right direction.

That little reset changed everything.

Because this is what I have learnt (and am still learning!): If you want to go fast for real, you need systems, clarity, and intentionality. Not just caffeine and chaos.

Now, I do things differently. Not perfectly. But better.

Every Monday, I sit and actually plan my week. Not just tasks, but priorities. Once a month, I block out time to work on the business. That includes looking at data, checking in with Brandiie, reviewing customer feedback, and asking: is this all still working?

It sounds simple, but I am telling you it’s not easy. Especially for someone like me, who defaults to go-go-go.

If you're building something that matters, a business, a brand, a portfolio career, then I want to offer this:

Speed isn't your only strength. Sometimes the smartest move is to stop, look up, and realign.

Because momentum isn't just built by motion. It's built by intention.
